Diablo 4 is about to hit one of those rare reset moments where the whole game feels different overnight. On April 28, 2026, Lord of Hatred opens the door to the Skovos Isles, and a lot of players are already treating these final days like a countdown. If you're even thinking about starting fresh with Paladin or Warlock, now's the time to get your prep sorted. That means clearing old goals, trimming dead weight, and making sure your Diablo 4 Items situation isn't a mess before the expansion lands. Turning up undergeared, broke, and buried in junk gear is the kind of mistake that sounds small now and feels awful later.
Finish what Season 12 startedThe first job is simple: wrap up anything tied to Abattoir of Zir before it disappears. A lot of people kept putting it off because the mode felt rough early on, but Patch 2.6.1 helped quite a bit. The climb is still a grind, sure, though it's no longer that miserable brick wall it used to be. If you've been close to your best clear, push it now while the rewards are still there. Limited titles and skins always seem skippable until they're gone, and then suddenly everybody wishes they'd spent one more night farming. If those cosmetics matter to you even a little, don't leave them on the table.
Clear stash space before the loot floodAfter that, deal with the stash. Nobody enjoys this part, but honestly, it has to be done. Most players are sitting on gear they swore they'd test someday and never touched again. Be honest with yourself. If an item has been collecting dust for weeks, it's probably not part of your future build. With Talismans, Runes, and Set Bonuses coming in, inventory pressure is only going up. Try to open at least three full tabs if you can. You'll feel the difference right away once the new zone starts dropping class gear, crafting pieces, and all the weird new systems Blizzard wants everyone to learn at once.
Build your launch-day economyGold and materials matter more than people think before a big expansion. A fresh class burns through resources fast, especially if you're rerolling stats, Masterworking gear, or messing around with new Horadric Cube recipes. It adds up quicker than expected. This is also the right moment to finish Renown if you haven't already. Nobody wants to be the person back in old zones chasing missing Paragon points while friends are already pushing into new endgame content. It's boring prep, yeah, but it saves you from that awful feeling of being behind because of something you could've handled in advance.
Save rewards for the right momentThere's one more trick worth using before launch: stop cashing in every Tree of Whispers reward the second you earn it. Holding completed caches for the expansion window can give you a cleaner start, especially when you're trying to stack fresh gear and Diablo 4 materials without wasting your first few hours sorting out basic needs. It's not flashy, but it works. A little prep now means less menu time later, and when Mephisto finally steps into the spotlight, that's really what you want: more time fighting, less time fixing problems you saw coming days earlier.
